Allbäck Linseed Oil Paint

Made from boiled and purified Swedish linseed oil and color pigments. Does not contain solvents. Extremly good coverage! Linseed oil paint is suitable for all clean and dry surfaces indoor and outdoors. Available in 32 factory made colors that all can be mixed together. Mix in Zink additive 10-20% in places where there is risk of mould growth.

Areas of use: all exteriour and interiour wooden surfaces (walls, doors, window frames and outdoor furniture). Also suitable for metal surfaces.
Coverage: Planed wood: ~15-25m2/l
Drying time: 1-3 days First layer dries faster, next ones slower.
Solvent: If necessary, thin with max. 5% boiled linseed oil. DO NOT USE SOLVENTS.
Colors: According to Allbäck color chart. Other colours are available by order. Mix Allbäck paint colours together to create custom colours. Darker colors are easy to mix with white to obtain lighter shades.
Cleaning Allbäck Linseed Soap and water immediately after use. Use pine turpentine if necessary.
VOC content: <5mg / L, natural oil only.
Storage & disposal: Keep in a cool and dry place. Dry and empty containers can be taken to a refuse dump. Liquid waste must be taken to a municipal hazardous waste collection point. Does not freeze.

INSTRUCTIONS

Preparation
Surface must be clean and dry. Wood maximum moisture content 14%, air humidity less than 80%. Air temperature at least +10 C.
Paint coverage is greater on sawn surface than on a smooth planed surface. Sawn surface also attracts more dirt.
To clean painted or unpainted surfaces, use Allbäck Linseed Soap or other cleaning agent. All mold/mildew must be washed off before painting otherwise it will grow back through any tipe of paint.
Seal knots with pure shellac as required to prevent staining. (Mix shellac flakes with denatured alcohol 300g/1L.)

Painting
Stir the paint thoroughly before painting, e.g. with a hand blender (see page 31). If necessary, strain the paint through nylon tights to remove any pieces of skin. Do not dilute the paint with solvent. If necessary it can be thinned with max. 5% Allbäck Boiled Linseed Oil. Add 10-20% Zinc Oxide Additive when painting outside. Linseed oil paint mus be apllyed as very thin layer. Outside paint three layers. Variations in sheen may occur if penetration or application is uneven. This will even out with next layers. Make sure that paint has fully dried before painting next layer. Light and heat accelerate drying process. If necessary linseed oil paint can be thinned with max. 5% Allbäck Boiled Linseed Oil. Allbäcki linseed oil paint does not need special primer but if you use deeper colors that are more expensive it might be wise to paint first layer with regular white (+ zinc if outside).

• Always make a test to ensure paint and surface campatibility - this is very important!
• In rooms with hight moisture content use a dehumidifier.
• Before painting on untreated and dried out wood outdoors, impregnate the surface with raw, filtered linseed oil. Use a heat gun to warm the oiled surface. (600C).
• Mix the paint from time to time also during the painting process.
• If necessary linseed oil paint can be thinned with max. 5% Allbäck Boiled Linseed Oil.
• Indoor surfaces can be primed with Allbäck shellac primer to optain a more glossy finish.
• When painting floors, furniture, kitchen or other surfacest that will get a lot of wear, add a bit of zinc additive to paint.
• A thick brush with strong bristles is good.
• Linseed paint must be applyed as thin layer. Correct paint film thickness is approx. 100 microns per coat. Use the wet film thickness gauge to measure.
• Work the paint into the surface in “several directions” before the final long stroke of the brush.
• Outside paint three layers.
• You can paint in the direct sunlight.
• Useful tools to have at hand: whisk. Rubber spatula. Measuring cup. Mixing stick.
• Clean tools and hands with linseed oil soap and warm water.

Advice

• Store your brushes hanging in a container of raw linseed oil. This oil can later be used for impregnating wood.
• Variations in sheen may occur if penetration or application is uneven. This will even out over time. These will disappear after some time.
• One way to reduce these variations is to impregnate dry timber with linseed oil or wipe a painted surface with boiled linseed oil.
• Linseed oil paint might slightly wellow in dark corners. The same can happen in contact with a substance wwith high pH. Yellowing will dissapear when area gets more sunlight.

Maintenence
Over the years linseed oil paint will "chalkify". Then first wash the surface with linseed oil soap and the wipe with a cloth soaked in linseed oil.
This will restore protective layer and shine.
