Reed Board

Reed board is produced for two different purposes – as a panel under plaster and for use in interior design, i.e. as a decorative panel, which is made from the best quality reed. Reed board as a material is environmentally friendly and has been used in construction for centuries.

Reed board is a pressed dish that is braided together with zinc wire, which ensures the strength of the board. The field of use of reed board is wide, for example, it is possible to make shutters for windows, a garden for a house, a shelter for a garden. Today, reed board is also widely used in gardening.

Thanks to its properties, reed board has found use all over the world and it shows people’s awareness of the need for environmental preservation and a healthy living environment. The thermal conductivity of a 5 cm thick reed board is 0.056W/mK (Construction Resources, UK).

In terms of primary energy content per cubic meter of material, reed board is the most environmentally friendly insulation material (compared to linen felt, cellulose wool, stone wool and glass wool) (Kätlin Kallas, 2006).

In construction, reed board was used and is still used for insulation of walls and ceilings (especially in wooden houses) and sound insulation (with very good sound absorption). To ensure fire safety, reed tiles are plastered with lime or clay plaster. The decorative board can also be impregnated with Multi Protect products and the colorless fire-stopping liquid SG2 Magna Firestop. Reed board is a very good base material for plaster.

For example, the entire log house has been covered with reed board, and it has also been used to insulate the interiors of limestone manor buildings and as a base plate for plaster, so that the plaster does not fall off due to wall moisture. Reed board and traditional plasters “breathe” (let water vapor through). Building and repairing a house with the right materials ensures, first of all, the health of the person, the health of the house and is environmentally friendly. Reed board is easy to install and process.
