
Shellac Orange
Shellac is a resinous secretion of the lac insect. After the crude lac is gathered from the tree, it is crushed and graded and the largest particles, called seed-lac, are selected for making the best grade of shellac varnishes.
Shellac diluted in alcohol is used for a traditional furniture varnish.
Soluble in alcohol (very slowly), not soluble in water, and slightly soluble in acetone and ether
Uses & application: Coating agent, surface-finishing agent, glaze
